A Note From Our CEO

Dear CASA Community,

As the summer days begin to shorten and stores fill with backpacks, notebooks, and pencils, we are reminded that the back-to-school season is upon us, a time often filled with anticipation and promise. For many children, it's an exciting opportunity to see friends, meet new teachers, and begin a fresh academic year. But for the children we serve at Voices for Children, CASA of Boulder County, this time can look very different.

Children in the child welfare system face unique and often overwhelming challenges that don’t disappear with the arrival of a new school year. Many have experienced trauma, instability, and frequent moves, which can lead to gaps in their education, emotional stress, and feelings of isolation. While some children are shopping for new school clothes and supplies, others are navigating new foster homes, unfamiliar schools, and the lingering effects of past trauma.

This is where CASA volunteers make a powerful difference. Our trained Court Appointed Special Advocates stand beside each child, providing a consistent, trusted presence that ensures their voices are heard in court, in school, and in life! CASAs help advocate for educational stability, ensuring that children aren’t lost in the shuffle. They meet with teachers, attend school meetings, and help secure the resources a child needs to thrive academically and emotionally.

As we head into this school year, I ask you to remember the children in Boulder County who rely on CASA volunteers to help navigate the uncertainty in their lives. Whether it's providing school supplies, advocating for tutoring, or simply being a stable presence, the support of a CASA can be the turning point in a child's educational journey.

We are deeply grateful for your continued support, which enables us to recruit, train, and support the advocates who walk alongside these children every day. Your generosity helps make sure no child faces the challenges of a new school year alone.

With gratitude,

Margaret Bachrach

Organizational Updates

The End of the Fiscal Year

June 30th marked the end of another fantastic fiscal year for Voices for Children! In the last year, 192 CASA volunteers served 275 children and youth in Boulder County. These dedicated volunteers gave over 6,000 hours of their time to ensure that no child in the Boulder County Dependency and Neglect court would go without advocacy.

There was a 7% increase in the number of children served, and these cases continue to increase in length of time and complexity. It is with this in mind that we step into a new fiscal year, renewing our dedication to this community. We look forward to partnering with you to provide a better future for children who have experienced abuse and neglect.
