CASA Joy Witherow
Our June CASA Volunteer of the Month is Joy Witherow
We are excited to honor Joy Witherow as our CASA of the month. Joy has been a volunteer with VFC since February 2025 and has shown so much commitment serving on her current Dependency and Neglect case with two young children. Joy has been a calm and steady presence for the family as they have navigated various transitions throughout the case.
Joy shared that one of the best parts of being a CASA volunteer is the trust and relationships that have begun to flourish over the course of the case. Joy expressed notable moments throughout her advocacy sharing “Nothing prepares you for the moment that first time a kiddo who is usually completely guarded looks you in the eye and spontaneously breaks out in a smile because they know they can trust you to be there. Or the moment when family members realize that you really are totally rooting for them to succeed. Or watching the foster family relax and invite you into their home and lives, not because it's part of everything they have to do, but because they know that you will fully show up with everyone's best interests at heart.”
Joy’s approach is rooted in building meaningful connections, and she is committed to bettering the lives of children and families in our community. Joy shared a powerful insight into being a CASA volunteer and how the experience has brought her unapologetically close to the impact of generational trauma, awareness of her own shortcomings and need for others. Joy expressed that it has given her hope in real time that if she just shows up and does the next right thing, real change can happen in people's lives.
Thank you for the compassion and dedication that you consistently bring to your advocacy, Joy! We are so grateful for the intentional thought and care that you bring to the CASA community and families you serve.
