CASA Mercedes Gitter
Our April CASA Volunteer of the Month is Mercedes Gitter
Since becoming a CASA in 2024, Mercedes has been a steady and compassionate presence for the youth she serves. After working on a Dependency & Neglect case, she is now supporting two truancy cases, where she continues to go above and beyond as a consistent, positive adult in their lives.
Her approach is grounded in a deep belief in the power of encouragement and connection. She shared that she became a CASA because she knows how life-changing it can be to have someone who truly believes in you—“that belief helped me see what was possible.” She brings that same mindset into her work, offering youth the support and encouragement to begin seeing their own potential.
One of the most meaningful parts of this role, she notes, is watching confidence grow. “It often starts as a quiet confidence, then grows into a real sense of self-worth,” and being part of that process is what makes the work so powerful. She understands that progress isn’t linear and makes it a priority to celebrate every step forward, helping youth focus on growth and possibility while always having someone in their corner cheering them on.
For her, being a CASA also feels like “growing my family.” She builds genuine relationships with the youth she serves, carrying a deep sense of care and connection that extends far beyond the life of a case.
We are grateful for the dedication, consistency, and heart she brings to CASA. Her work is making a meaningful difference in the lives of youth and families in our community.
