For September, we are honored to recognize Pamela Ward as CASA of the Month. Pamela was sworn in as a volunteer in 2024. She first served on a Dependency and Neglect case and is currently advocating on a Truancy Prevention case. Pamela has been an amazing asset to her cases as a CASA volunteer, prioritizing the child and understanding the relationships in their lives to best advocate for them.

Pamela is a lifelong volunteer but was feeling unfulfilled prior to becoming a CASA. “If I can help one kid, I’ve done great work,” Pamela reflected. Through being a CASA volunteer, Pamela has had the opportunity to work with and meet many different types of people, which she has greatly enjoyed. Pamela shared that she grew up in poverty, and though not every case involves a family in poverty, she feels this has helped her have a deeper understanding while advocating for the children and youth she serves.

While she recognizes it takes patience and persistence to be a CASA volunteer, Pamela shares that she feels heard and like she has a say through Voices for Children. Pamela expressed, “As volunteers we may not realize how the smallest things, a smile or a helping hand, can really help a child.”

Though Pamela’s first case is now closed, she is still connected to the family. Pamela’s most rewarding moment so far has been watching the child on her first case grow, develop, and shape into who he is. She finds it fascinating and fulfilling, and says she will continue to follow up with the family and child to see how they are doing!
