CASA Paul Alter and CASA Debbie Bernardoni
Our July CASA Volunteers of the Month are Paul Alter and Debbie Bernardoni
We’re proud to recognize Paul Alter and Debbie Bernardoni as our CASAs of the Month!
Paul and Debbie have been dedicated volunteers with Voices for Children, CASA of Boulder County for several years—Debbie since 2017 and Paul since 2018. This dynamic duo is currently serving on their fifth case together, bringing a powerful blend of empathy, persistence, and teamwork to every child and family they support.
Throughout their CASA journey, Paul and Debbie have been instrumental in ensuring children maintain meaningful connections with their families. They work tirelessly to make sure family time happens consistently and with care, recognizing how important these moments are to a child’s sense of stability and belonging. They are also strong advocates for access to critical services and educational support, always putting the child’s needs first and speaking up when it matters most.
In reflecting on their experience as CASAs, Paul and Debbie shared, “One way we have been impacted is our increased compassion and understanding of how difficult life can become for so many families. These changes can happen so quickly and affect so many lives, and sometimes beyond their ability to control.” Their deepened empathy has only strengthened their resolve to walk alongside children and families through challenging times.
When asked about the most rewarding part of being a CASA, they said, “We think one of the best parts of being a CASA is when a child gives us a hug. It melts us every time.” Moments like these are a testament to the trust, safety, and connection they work so hard to build.
Thank you, Paul and Debbie, for your years of selfless service and unwavering dedication. Your impact is felt not only by the children you support, but by everyone privileged to witness your advocacy in action. Congratulations on being our July CASAs of the Month!
